Memphis Soul legend Booker T. Jones is best known as the leader of Booker T. and the MGs, the band that achieved national success with the hit instrumental “Green Onions.” Additionally, he is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner.
Now Jones can add two more accolades to his list: earlier this week Jones was nominated for two Grammy Awards for his latest album Potato Hole: Best Pop Instrumental Album and Best Rock Instrumental Performance (for the single ‘Warped Sister”). Jones will bring his Grammy winning sound to the Poway Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, January 16. Tickets are on sale now.
The MGs, lead by Jones and featuring Steve Cropper and Donald “Duck” Dunn, were the house band at Memphis’ legendary Stax Studio backing such soul legends as Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and Sam & Dave. Recognized as the heart and soul of the Memphis sound - a combination of blues, soul and rock and roll - Booker T. has also lent his legendary keyboard chops to artists like Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Ray Charles, Eric Clapton and Neil Young and has produced albums for Willie Nelson.
Potato Hole features Jones backed by critically acclaimed alt-country band the Drive-by Truckers and guitar work by Neil Young. To learn more, visit www.bookert.com
